For over two decades, the Telluride Mountain Club (TMC) has been an important access advocate in Telluride and the San Juan mountain region. TMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Telluride’s outdoor community and access to our public lands. While not a club per se, we are a group of passionate individuals who care enough to affect positive change. Hikers, skiers, snowboarders, climbers, bikers, etc. are encouraged to share their thoughts, observations and wisdom and help make our alpine community a stronger, better and more cohesive group.
TMC Mission Statement
Our main goal is to preserve access for outdoor activities such as hiking, back-country skiing, ice & rock climbing, biking and other mountain-related activities. Our efforts are focused only on assisting human-powered endeavors. Personal responsibility, self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship are TMC’s top priorities, as well as preserving each citizen’s right to the “Freedom of the Hills.”

I love this concept of Freedom of the Hills – as it is based on the concept of the Book “Freedom of the Hills” which specifically teaches and promotes safe competent and fluent understanding of the mountains and mountain environment. Freedom is something you earn as you progress through your different levels of initiation, exporation and expierience. None of this possible without our right to use and enjoy our public lands from the rivers to the alpine crags to the summits of 14′er’s.
